Al Jazeera’s Ties to Hamas Exposed: Terrorist Journalist Eliminated
IDF and ISA eliminate Hamas terrorist employed by Al Jazeera in Gaza
The IDF and ISA eliminated Hamas terrorist Hossam Basel Abdul Karim Shabat, a sniper in the Beit Hanoun Battalion, who was also employed as a journalist by Al Jazeera. Internal Hamas documents revealed Shabat’s military training and involvement in terrorist activities, alongside several other Al Jazeera journalists linked to Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

On Monday, the IDF and ISA successfully eliminated Hossam Basel Abdul Karim Shabat, a sniper terrorist affiliated with Hamas' Beit Hanoun Battalion, who was also employed as a journalist by Al Jazeera. Shabat's involvement with Hamas was exposed by the IDF and ISA in October 2024 when internal documents from Hamas revealed his participation in military training with the Beit Hanoun Battalion in 2019. These documents also confirmed his direct affiliation with Hamas' military wing.
Throughout the war, Shabat carried out attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers. This incident is part of a broader pattern where several Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza were found to have connections with Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The IDF disclosed intelligence findings, including documents from the Gaza Strip, that show the military affiliations of six Al Jazeera journalists with terrorist organizations. These individuals were identified as Anas Jamal Mahmoud Al-Sharif, Alaa Abdul Aziz Muhammad Salama, Hossam Basel Abdul Karim Shabat, Ashraf Sami Ashour Saraj, Ismail Farid Muhammad Abu Omar, and Talal Mahmoud Abdul Rahman Aruki.
Previously, the Al Jazeera network had tried to distance itself from Ismail Farid Muhammad Abu Omar, another journalist-terrorist, who was struck in an airstrike in Gaza earlier. The IDF’s intelligence documents uncovered detailed lists, including personnel tables, terrorist training courses, phone directories, and salary records, which directly linked these journalists to their roles as military operatives within Hamas and Islamic Jihad. This evidence provides further confirmation of the complex relationship between certain media personnel in Gaza and terrorist organizations operating in the region.
The IDF’s continued revelations highlight the troubling ties between Al Jazeera journalists and Hamas militants, raising questions about the network’s connection to the ongoing conflict.
