In a significant escalation along Gaza's border, the IDF confirmed multiple casualties Sunday after Gaza residents approached within 300 meters of the security fence near Kibbutz Nahal Oz, with military correspondent Almog Boker revealing extensive details about the incident and broader military policy.

"This is a very unusual incident resulting from the withdrawal from the Netzarim corridor," the IDF stated. "Warning shots were fired, there are several casualties at the site as a result of the shooting. The others fled back beyond the perimeter, and if they had approached again, shots would have been fired to hit them."

In a revealing detail about daily security operations, the military disclosed that "dozens of incidents" occur daily requiring troops to fire at individuals approaching the perimeter. This admission comes as tensions heighten following the IDF's withdrawal from key positions as part of the recent hostage deal with Hamas.

"They are positioning themselves for the next massacre," warned Itamar Ben Gvir, expressing the fears of many border residents still traumatized by Hamas's October 7 assault on these same communities.

The "Mothers of Soldiers" organization has urged Prime Minister Netanyahu to formalize these aggressive response measures. "Only shoot-to-kill orders will bring security," they stated, their demand now appearing aligned with existing military practice.

Former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman advocated for expanding the security measures, calling for a one-kilometer security perimeter inside Gaza territory. "October 7th government, wake up," he warned, as the debate over border security intensifies.

The incident occurs as Palestinians return to their neighborhoods along Salah al-Din Street, creating a complex security situation where the military's strict engagement policies reflect the lasting impact of October 7 on Israel's approach to border security.
