Vermont Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders is set to force a vote today (Thursday) in the Senate on a joint resolution to block some $8.8 billion in American military aid to Israel, on the grounds that Israel is violating international law for its Prime Minister Netanyahu's "extremist" ends, according to Jewish Insider.

Sanders has tried to introduce a number of such resolutions in the Senate over the past few months, all of which have failed to receive a majority - no Republicans voted for any of them - but some of which have received a substantial portion of the Democratic Senatorial caucus.

The latest resolution condemns the sale of 35,000 2,000-pound bombs, of the sort the Biden administration refused to deliver to Israel in the middle of the war due to fears of its progressive and human rights wing that they were causing excessive casualties, though Israel argued these were needed to effectively destroy fortified terrorist infrastructure such as tunnels.

Though the resolution is likely to fail, the question of who will vote for it on the Democratic side is an important one, as some Senators from swing states supported part or all of previous resolutions - including swing state Senators Jon Ossof and Raphael Warnock.

Ossof is up for reelection in 2026, and there is some evidence to suggest traditionally Democratic Jewish voters might consider voting against him in the Peach State if someone like Governor Brian Kemp is nominated to unseat him.
