D'oh! Bernie Sanders' anti-Israel resolution doesn't even get 20 votes

Vermont Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders' resolution to block $8.8 billion in military aid to Israel, on the grounds of violations of humanitarian law, went down in crushing defeat today (Thursday), with just 15 Senators voting in favor of the anti-Israel resolution, according to Jewish Insider.

Georgia Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, who supported a similar resolution months ago, have since switched their votes to oppose the resolution. This comes as Ossoff came under withering criticism for voting to suspend weapons deliveries from Israel from among Jewish voters in the closely divided swing state of Georgia.

Following Ossoff's vote, some Jewish leaders even sent a private letter to Republican Governor Brian Kemp telling the staunchly pro-Israel governor that they would support him over their usual Democratic inclinations if he ran for Senator in 2026.

Senator Sanders was only supported by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Ed Markey (D-MA), Tina Smith (D-MN), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM), Peter Welch (D-VT) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) in his resolution.

Only Freshmen Senator Andy Kim voted in favor among those considered to be on the fence on the matter, alienating New Jersey's substantial Jewish community on the grounds that the weapons being sold to Israel would prolong the war and suffering and endanger the hostages.
