Israeli democracy on the brink
Ben-Gvir erupts over High Court decision re Ronen Bar; Police Commissioner Levy vows to follow ruling
Following the High Court's decision to extend Ronen Bar's term, Minister Ben-Gvir expressed his frustration, while Police Commissioner Danny Levy assured compliance with the ruling.

Police Commissioner Danny Levy was asked on Wednesday whether he and the police will act in accordance with the High Court's ruling that Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar can't be fired for now, and responded: "In every speech and in every conversation with police officers, I say to them, how can we think, God forbid, that a police commissioner who leads the most central gatekeeper organization in the State of Israel, will not enforce the law and will not obey the High Court's ruling?!
I declare here with a committee, I and the Israel Police officers, we will fight for democracy to the last drop of blood," he added.
The interviewer went on to make it difficult for the police commissioner: "And if the minister [Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir] tells you something else?"
Itamar Ben-Gvir was furious at the questions being asked by journalists to Levy, claiming that the were just being provocative.
It should be recalled that last night the High Court of Justice instructed the government not to announce a replacement for Ronen Bar, and ruled that Prime Minister Netanyahu and the head of the Shin Bet could file affidavits with their claims against each other. According to the decision, Netanyahu will be able to interview candidates.
