How U.S. pressure released the hostages
"I Gave Netanyahu The Green Light": Inside Trump's explosive threat to Hamas
President Trump recently addressed the ultimatum he issued to Hamas, which demanded the release of hostages by Saturday morning. Although the deadline set by the U.S. president wasn't strictly enforced, Trump clarified that his statement played a significant role in influencing Hamas to reconsider their stance.

In an exclusive conversation with journalists on Air Force One, Trump revealed that he had given Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the freedom to act on the situation. He emphasized, "The mere threat of mine caused Hamas to reconsider what they said about stopping the deal." Trump explained that his statement, which demanded the return of all hostages, led to a shift in Hamas's decision-making, ultimately resulting in the release of hostages, including an American citizen.
Trump made it clear that Netanyahu was free to make decisions on behalf of Israel but emphasized that he was expecting the hostages to be released. He added, "Israel and Prime Minister Netanyahu will decide what to do next, in consultation with me."
This development follows an intense security consultation in Israel, where Prime Minister Netanyahu and his close advisors discussed the hostages' release, which occurred during the Sabbath. It was in this context that Netanyahu was pressured to re-engage in talks, despite his initial resistance.
According to reports, Netanyahu had initially opposed sending a delegation to Cairo to discuss the next phase of the deal, but American pressure, particularly from U.S. special envoy Steve Vitkoff, led him to reconsider. A statement from Netanyahu's office confirmed that the Israeli delegation would head to Cairo to continue discussions on Phase A of the deal, with a focus on the next steps after a scheduled cabinet meeting.
Further reports suggest that negotiations on Phase B may include a summit in Qatar, contingent on the approval of Israel's cabinet. The shift in Netanyahu's position underscores the significant influence of American diplomacy in shaping the course of the ongoing negotiations.
