A short time ago today (Sunday), the IDF Air Force struck a Hezbollah target deep inside Lebanon in the Bekaa region.

According to the IDF statement:

Air Force fighter jets recently carried out a targeted strike, guided by intelligence from the Intelligence Division, on an underground tunnel in the Bekaa region that crosses from Syrian territory into Lebanese territory, which was used by the Hezbollah terrorist organization for transferring weapons.

This tunnel was attacked in the past, and the IDF is determined to prevent its rehabilitation and use.

Additionally, the aircraft struck several sites belonging to the terrorist organization containing weapons and launchers that posed an immediate threat from the Hezbollah terrorist organization in Lebanese territory.

The targets that were struck constituted a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.

The IDF continues to operate to remove any threat to the State of Israel in accordance with the understandings between Israel and Lebanon. The IDF is determined to maintain these understandings in order to prevent the re-establishment and strengthening of the Hezbollah terrorist organization.

The IDF is set to withdraw its ground forces from southern Lebanon by February 18, a little over a week from now, following an extension of the original ceasefire withdrawal deadline of September 26.

The IDF had said that the Lebanese Army was moving too slowly into the region to demilitarize it, that Hezbollah was violating the ceasefire "hundreds of times" in moving men and weapons into the area, and that some senior and junior Lebanese Army men were actively assisting Hezbollah. As such, they could not withdraw until this changed.

US Middle East Envoy Morgan Ortagus visited Lebanon last week, where she insisted that the Lebanese Army do a thorough search of thirty sites in Lebanon suspected as being used for terrorist purposes, especially weapons storage.
