Defense Minister Israel Katz visited the hostage absorption point in Israel today (Sunday), in preparation for the return of Romi Gonen, Doron Steinbrecher and Emily Damari today from Hamas captivity, in accordance with the first phase of the hostage deal signed between Israel and the terrorist group.
Katz met with the teams prepared to accompany the hostages being freed during the complicated process of bringing them to be treated and rehabilitated, thanking them and stressing Israel's commitment to ensure the return of all the hostages.
Earlier today, Katz met with senior officers in the Gaza Division's southern brigade as part of the IDF's redeployment within the Gaza Strip and along the southern border during the 42-day ceasefire required by the hostage deal's first phase.
Katz then said that "I came here today to ensure that the IDF is fully prepared to absorb and accompany the female hostages returning today to Israel.
"Furthermore, I came to ensure that the IDF is prepared to defend the settlements and soldiers against any possibility of attack and efforts to carry out terrorist attacks and kidnappings by the Hamas murderers even during the ceasefire. We will make sure to protect the buffer areas and respond powerfully to any violation and threat."
Katz then said that "thanks to the heroism of the IDF's soldiers, we will witness the return today of Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher and later the return of all the male and female hostages."
The Defense Minister ended by saying that "we will not stop the war before everyone returns home."
