U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein has informed Lebanese officials that the IDF will withdraw from the south of the country within two weeks, the Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported on Saturday.

According to the report, the American promise was made against the backdrop of the end of the 60-day period set as part of the ceasefire. Hochstein stressed to the Lebanese officials that Washington is committed to working to ensure the full withdrawal of IDF forces from the area, in accordance with the agreements reached.

At the same time, the American envoy demanded that the Lebanese army prepare to increase its alert in the south of the country, in order to prevent the creation of a security vacuum. It was also noted that Hochstein made it clear that Hezbollah must hand over all its weapons south of the Litani River to the Lebanese army, as part of the steps to strengthen the stability of the region.
