The IDF's butcher's bill for the October 7 and the war: 891 dead, and a 13-year high in SUICIDES
The IDF's accomplishments this past year have been great, but the cost of failures and combat have been very high.


The IDF released its tally of total casualties - dead and wounded - since October 7 today (Thursday). According to the total numbers, 891 enlisted, regular, and reserve soldiers were killed and 5,569 wounded.
In 2023, 558 soldiers were killed as opposed to just 44 in 2022 - 329 of them on October 7 alone.
512 died during operational activity, 16 of them in accidents: 2 in training accidents, 4 in civilian accidents, 5 in military accidents, 1 in a weapons accident, and 4 in other kinds of accidents.
17 are being investigated as suspected suicides, 10 died of illness, and 3 fell due to enemy incidents.
A large number of soldiers also died in 2024 - 363 enlisted, regular, and reserve soldiers, all told.
295 of these soldiers died in operational circumstances. 23 died in accidents: 17 in civilian accidents, 3 in military accidents, and 3 in other accidents. 21 cases are being investigated as suspected suicides. 13 died from illness. 11 died from enemy incidents.
The IDF had previously succeeded in significantly reducing the number of suicides in the army from a high in the mid-2000s, but is now seeing an increase in the wake of the war.
