A Gazan refugee speaking to Israel Hayom today (Tuesday) said that Mohammad Sinwar knows the military situation better than his late brother Yahya, the former Hamas leader and mastermind of October 7.
He said that the terrorist group is not present on the streets and hides in civilian clothing but that it "controls humanitarian aid and markets with forceful methods in order to subordinate the population to its policy...even though it does not entirely control the security situation."
He also said that the odds of a deal are currently slim because Hamas doesn't want a deal that does not end the war and lets them survive. The population wants a ceasefire, but Hamas does not and is willing to sacrifice the population to that end.
The refugee noted that only military pressure and taking over the central Gaza Strip will force Hamas into concessions - an act which the IDF has thus far refused to do, as it believes most of the hostages are held there and that troops getting to close to where they are held would lead to their being murdered by Hamas.
Regarding the post-war future, the refugee said that the best option for running the Gaza Strip would be the Palestinian Authority, at least regarding civilian governance. He agreed that Israel should have security control over the Strip to prevent any reemergence of terrorist groups.
