Israeli President Isaac Herzog has drawn a poignant comparison between the plight of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and the infamous Iranian hostage crisis of 1979-1981.

Speaking on the grim milestone, Herzog wrote on X, “For 444 days, over 50 American diplomats and citizens were held hostage in Iran. The world held its breath for their safe return.”

He continued, “Today, 100 innocent Israelis - men, women, and children - remain hostages in Gaza. They have also now endured 444 days in captivity without basic humanitarian aid, medicine, or visits from the Red Cross. This must end. Bring them home!”

Herzog also highlighted the personal stories of those affected, hosting Farhan al-Qadi, a Muslim Bedouin citizen of Israel recently freed from captivity, and Malki Shem Tov, the father of Omer, who remains in Hamas custody. “Their shocking stories underscore the urgent need to bring everyone home,” Herzog emphasized, calling the situation a “moral imperative.”

The President’s remarks come amid continued international pressure to secure the release of hostages and provide humanitarian aid to those affected by the ongoing conflict.
