Biden’s 30-Day Ultimatum to Israel

In a letter to Israeli ministers, Blinken and Austin warn that if Israel fails to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza within 30 days, the US could impose an arms embargo, citing Israel's earlier commitments to facilitate aid into the region.

The US administration is not satisfied with the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Gaza in recent weeks. Last night (Monday), Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin sent a letter to Ministers Dermer and Gallant stating that if Israel does not resolve the humanitarian crisis within a month, an arms embargo will be imposed on Israel, reported Channel 12.

The letter to the two said: "In line with Israel's commitment in March 2024 to allow rather than prevent the transfer of U.S. humanitarian aid or those supported by the Gaza government, the State Department should conduct an audit in accordance with the Assistance Act. In order to reverse the negative humanitarian trend and in accordance with its promises, Israel must take concrete steps within 30 days. Failure to implement these measures could lead to consequences for U.S. policy in accordance with U.S. law (arms embargo)."

Their appeal comes after last September recorded the lowest amount of aid entering the Gaza Strip, despite promises made in March of this year.
