A red color siren was heard a short time ago (Wednesday) at Kerem Shalom crossing, hours after it was reopened for humanitarian aid, per the government's decision and per the demand of the American government.

Kerem Shalom was closed last Sunday due to a Hamas attack on an IDF staging area nearby, killing 4 soldiers. A day later, President Joe Biden spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu and demanded the crossing be immediately reopened.

COGAT stressed that even after the crossing's reopening, all humanitarian aid is carefully checked by the Defense Ministry's Land Crossings Authority before being allowed into Gaza.

Earlier today, a number of vehicles containing Palestinian workers on their way to work on the Gazan side of Kerem Shalom were fired upon. A number of wounded on site were treated by IDF soldiers.

The circumstances of the shooting are being investigated.
