"I have temptations and trials - these are exactly the things I sing about," reveals chart-topping artist Ishai Ribo in a candid conversation that aired Sunday night on Israel's Kan 11.
The typically private performer, whose latest album has racked up millions of streams, sat down with veteran journalist Roni Kuben to discuss the intense spiritual tug-of-war he experiences while balancing stardom with his religious beliefs.
"Sometimes you can be a great messenger but still be fake with yourself - and I refuse to accept that," Ribo shared, addressing the challenges of maintaining authenticity in his dual roles as both an Orthodox Jew and a mainstream pop sensation.
Known for his soul-stirring lyrics that often explore themes of faith and inner conflict, Ribo opened up about his personal battles: "I strive to fulfill commandments and maintain my connection to Torah study. But like anyone else, I have my ups and downs, temptations and trials. Ultimately, these struggles are what I pour into my music."
The rare television appearance on Kuben's "Pgisha" (Meeting) program offered viewers an intimate glimpse into the world of one of Israel's most successful contemporary artists, who has managed to cross religious and secular divides while staying true to his values.
"It's a constant back and forth," Ribo explained, referencing fellow religious singer Shuli Rand's concept of "running and returning" - a spiritual journey of advancement and retreat that characterizes his personal growth.
Despite his massive commercial success, Ribo maintains a notably modest lifestyle while raising his family, demonstrating his commitment to walking the delicate line between modern stardom and traditional Jewish values.
