President Donald Trump has appointed Yehuda Kaploun, a Jewish businessman and philanthropist close to the president, as America's Envoy to combat antisemitism, according to an announcement by Trump today (Thursday) on TruthSocial.

Here is the full statement:

"I am proud to nominate Yehuda Kaploun as the United States Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, Ambassador-at-Large. Yehuda is a successful businessman, and staunch advocate for the Jewish Faith and the Rights of his people to live and worship free from persecution. With Anti-Semitism dangerously on the rise, Yehuda will be the strongest Representative for Americans and Jews across the Globe, and promote PEACE. Congratulations Yehuda!"

Kaploun is a businessman and Chabad-oriented Jew who works in the field of producing "atmospheric water" - forming water from air. He was also involved in many charitable events during crises and disasters in the United States, including 9/11 and Hurricanes Harvey and Edna.

He also worked with former Nobel Laureate Elie Weisel to establish the Moses and Aaron Foundation – a charity committed to special needs children and their families.

Kaploun, who is close to President Trump, helped to work to get out the Jewish vote for the President in the effort to reelect him in 2024, despite general Jewish suspicion of Trump.

In an interview for the Jerusalem Post, Kaploun said that "If I feel that what he’d like me to do will have an impact on the global picture of how Jews are seen and treated, I’d absolutely consider it,” he said. “But it has to be meaningful. I’m not interested in being a ‘Jewish liaison’ or a token representative. If I take a position, it’ll be something trailblazing.”

Kaploun now has his position, which will require Senate confirmation.
