Nuts Factory goes nuts: National Kosher Supervision removes kosher approval

Rabbi Aharon Mehlman, head of National Kosher Supervision, announced just before Purim that Nuts Factory should not be considered kosher due to serious violations that his inspection service discovered.

Lovers of Nuts Factory, a highly popular chain mimicking Israeli markets, were shocked to learn just before Purim that its kashrut had been revoked, according to a report today by Ynet.

According to Rabbi Aharon Mehlman, the head of National Kosher Supervision (NKS), the company was caught engaging in "serious" violations of kashrut including the deliveries of outright non-kosher products. As such, he was revoking their kashrut approval and asking customers to disregard signs showing NKS certification.

Rabbi Mehlman said that he demanded a designated kashrut inspector be allowed to be present in all the Nuts Factory stores before he could restore his certification.

Meanwhile, Nuts Factory itself has rejected Rabbi Mehlman's claims, saying that there was a misunderstanding and that they will soon have new kashrut certification for customers.

According to Ynet, many customers are already calling to boycott the chain over the revocation of the NK certificate, which could be a significant blow to a chain highly reliant on kashrut-observant Jews in New York.
