An upscale Mediterranean restaurant in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood was targeted by vandals early Sunday morning, with attackers spraying "genocide cuisine" and "Israel steals culture" across its storefront windows.
The attack on 'Miriam', captured on security cameras around 3 a.m., showed three individuals - two women and a man - defacing the popular eatery. The incident has drawn swift condemnation from NYC Mayor Eric Adams, who promised a thorough NYPD investigation.
"I'm not afraid of people who come like thieves in the night," said owner Rafi Hasid, who reported receiving an outpouring of community support. The restaurant took to Instagram with a defiant message, vowing to remain a place "where cultures intertwine and stories are shared."
For regular patrons like Yasmin Segal, an Israeli expat, the vandalism hits close to home. "Seeing demonstrations is one thing, but when it happens near you, it's really scary," she told Ynet.
The incident comes amid growing concerns about antisemitic acts across New York City, which hosts the largest Jewish population outside Israel. Despite the vandalism, Miriam plans to continue serving its Mediterranean cuisine and maintaining its role as a neighborhood gathering spot.
"We celebrate diverse flavors and warm hospitality," the restaurant stated. "We will continue to be a safe place where everyone feels welcome."
