A Jewish passenger boarding an American Airlines flight in Miami reported a confrontation after noticing a flight attendant wearing a watermelon pin, a symbol often associated with pro-Palestinian solidarity.
The passenger documented the incident and shared the encounter on Instagram, detailing his perspective:
"The flight attendants were visibly upset and accused me of breaking the law by filming them. They then prevented me from disembarking, demanding I delete the video, which I refused to do."
Law enforcement was called to the scene and instructed the crew to allow the passenger to leave the plane. In the video, the passenger can be heard confronting the flight attendant, accusing her of antisemitism and supporting terrorism. "Why are you stopping me from leaving the plane? Is it because I’m Jewish? You’re antisemitic," he said.
The flight attendant denied the accusations, asserting that she did not know the passenger’s religious identity and claiming his continued presence on the plane was due to "harassment of the crew." The tense exchange has since sparked debate online about the appropriateness of political symbols in professional settings.
