Nazi swastikas were found painted on the pillars of Temple Israel synagogue in Minneapolis on Monday, city officials reported.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, a member of the congregation, condemned the act and said the Minneapolis Police Department is actively searching for those responsible.
"When hate is embraced or tolerated, it is emboldened," Frey wrote on X. "I’ve seen antisemitism increase over the last year, yet too few have spoken out against it, opting for the safety of silence. No matter one’s ethnicity or race, when any group is targeted, it’s on all of us to condemn it."
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison also addressed the incident on social media, calling it a direct threat to Jewish residents. Ellison assured the public that his office is monitoring the situation closely.
"Minnesotans of every faith deserve to live and worship with dignity, safety, and respect - no exceptions," Ellison wrote.
