A break-in at a Haredi-owned electronics business in Lakewood, New Jersey, saw thieves make off with goods worth over $4 million during Shabbat.
The sophisticated burglars breached the Prospect Street store through the roof, disabled security systems, and spent six hours looting high-value items like Apple smartwatches, laptops, and iPads. They also stole a pickup truck parked outside, loaded with additional electronics.
Police say the culprits cut a hole in the roof, used a ladder to enter, and neutralized cameras, wires, and hard drives while deploying cell jammers to avoid detection. The final damage tally is still under review.
CEO Yaakov Jacobs called it a “devastating” blow, telling news12.com the loss might force the business to close. “They knew exactly what they were doing,” he said, hinting at a possible repeat offender.
Authorities are probing links to similar recent thefts in the area, as the community reels from the massive hit.
