Disaster in Africa: 58 people drown after ferry capsizes

Dozens of people were killed after a ferry they were on capsized in the Central African Republic. Rescuers arrived at the scene 40 minutes after the incident began.

Dozens of people were killed in the Central African Republic after the ferry they were on overturned near a river in the capital, Bangui.

The ferry overturned a few minutes after it set sail for the funeral of a local chief. There were approximately 100 people on board: "So far we have managed to remove 58 lifeless bodies from the river," said a member of the rescue forces. The rescuers arrived at the scene about 40 minutes after the incident. The injured were taken to the hospital for further treatment.
