Chief of Staff, Lt. Col. Hertzi Halevi, decided last night (Monday) that despite the continuation of the war, discussions on officer placements will begin immediately. According to an IDF source, positions identified as sensitive and related to future investigations will not be discussed at the moment.
Halevi says he realizes that army service cannot be stopped even despite the ongoing campaign and must continue its routine as much as possible.
The second decision made by Halevi is to open an internal investigation regarding the October 7 Hamas incursion which claimed more than 1,200 lives. The investigation is slated to begin this coming March.
Some of the IDF's findings will be based on investigations published in the media covering the series of failures that led to the massacre. Halevi added that the IDF is constantly working to learn from past mistakes, and that this is the only way to guarantee residents of Israel's North and South a swift return to normalcy.
At the same time, the IDF is continuing its extensive attacks in Khan Yunis, which appears to be holding out to some degree despite heavy fighting. The terrorists in southern Gaza have prepared for war and are entrenching themselves in tunnels and in various buildings.
Following intense fighting in Nasser Hospital, over 200 terrorists have been detained in the area; about 96 of them inside the hospital. Based on terrorists' interrogations, it appears that the hospital was used as a terror base and that quite a few of the kidnapped Israelis were held there.
The IDF continues to plan the continuation of the campaign, includes a raid on Rafah, the area where, according to reports, most of the hostages are being held. Despite various rumors, Israel has no information that Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, has fled Gaza.
