Israel's military operation in Gaza escalated on Wednesday morning, with Defense Minister Israel Katz announcing an intensified offensive aimed at evacuating Gazan civilians from combat zones, dismantling Hamas' terrorist infrastructure, and seizing strategic territory to bolster Israeli security.

"I call on the residents of Gaza to act now to remove Hamas and return all the hostages. This is the only way to end the war," Katz declared.

Palestinian sources reported that IDF tanks and ground forces advanced in central and eastern Rafah, supported by a prolonged wave of airstrikes overnight, which reportedly killed over ten people. The strikes followed a Tuesday night barrage of explosions near Israeli border towns, as the IDF confirmed widespread aerial and artillery attacks targeting Hamas positions.

Over the weekend, IDF troops, under the command of the 143rd Gaza Division and supported by Military Intelligence and the Shin Bet, launched a major operation in Rafah’s Tel Sultan neighborhood. Israeli forces eliminated dozens of Hamas operatives, detained suspects for interrogation, and uncovered extensive terrorist infrastructure, including mortar shells hidden in a former school and a launcher with 25 barrels.

As operations continue, Israel remains focused on neutralizing Hamas' military capabilities while reinforcing security perimeters to protect both IDF troops and Israeli communities.
