Political analyst Amit Segal has called on U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to take decisive steps in handling Gaza, including overseeing the distribution of humanitarian aid and allowing Israel to annex parts of the territory.

In an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, Segal emphasized the urgency of stopping Hamas from hijacking aid intended for the people of Gaza. He criticized the Biden administration for pressuring Israel to continue providing aid despite repeated instances of Hamas diverting supplies. Segal argued that Trump must fulfill the unkept promise made by Secretary of State Antony Blinken to prevent Hamas from exploiting humanitarian aid.

According to Segal, Trump should insist that aid be distributed exclusively by IDF soldiers or trusted private organizations capable of withstanding Hamas interference. He asserted that cutting off Hamas’ ability to steal aid would lead to the organization’s collapse within weeks, depriving it of both resources and leverage over Gaza’s population.

Segal also urged Trump to endorse Israel’s annexation of parts of Gaza, arguing that territorial loss would strike a devastating blow to Hamas. He explained that in Middle Eastern culture, land represents the ultimate form of power and stability. Using the example of the Arabic word soumod (steadfastness), Segal highlighted the deep cultural link between land and identity, noting that the loss of territory would undermine Hamas’ narrative of resistance.

The worst outcome for Hamas, Segal concluded, would be an end to the conflict with Israel in possession of more land than it held before the war.
