US strikes back: CENTCOM targets Houthi operations hub in Sanaa

US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Monday that it conducted a precision airstrike against a Houthi command and control facility in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.

"On December 16 Yemen time, US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted a precision air strike against a key command and control facility operated by Iran-backed Houthis within Houthi-controlled territory in Sana’a, Yemen,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

The targeted facility, according to the statement, served as “a hub for coordinating Houthi operations, such as attacks against US Navy warships and merchant vessels in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.”

CENTCOM emphasized that the strike underscores its commitment to protecting US and coalition forces, regional allies, and international shipping routes.

The Houthis have significantly escalated their attacks in the region since the onset of the Gaza conflict in October, launching drones toward Israel and targeting commercial vessels in the Red Sea. In response to these threats, the US formed a multinational coalition of over 20 countries tasked with safeguarding maritime traffic in the Red Sea from Houthi aggression.

The coalition has carried out multiple strikes against Houthi infrastructure and weapons systems in Yemen. Just last week, CENTCOM reported that its forces successfully repelled Houthi attacks on US Navy and US-flagged vessels in the Gulf of Aden.
