14 Palestinian factions signed a statement aiming for national unity, though it remains unclear if this is a binding commitment or merely aspirational.

Following a two day conference hosted by China, 14 Palestinian factions signed onto a statement today (Monday) to "reach general national unity...as part of the PLO; and a commitment to establish an independent Palestinian state...and the securing of the right of return in accordance with (UN) Resolution 194," according to Israel Hayom.

Among the signatories to the statement were not only Fatah and Hamas but also the PFLP, the Democratic Front, and a whole host of other Palestinian terrorist groups and organizations.

As of right now, it is not clear whether the document constitutes a truly binding effort to unify the Palestinian factions, which have seen multiple unity efforts run aground over the details of unity agreements, or merely an aspirational document meant to satisfy their Chinese hosts.
