The simmering conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has taken a dramatic turn with the death of a high-ranking Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon. Mohammed Naameh Nasser, also known as "Hajj Abu Naameh," was killed in an Israeli strike on a car in Tyre, according to sources close to the militant group.

Israel's military confirmed the operation, stating that Nasser commanded Hezbollah's Aziz Unit, responsible for rocket fire into Israeli territory from southwestern Lebanon. This marks the third senior Hezbollah commander killed since hostilities intensified following Hamas's October 7 attack on Israel.

In retaliation, Hezbollah launched approximately 100 rockets at Israeli positions in the Golan Heights and northern Israel.

The IDF says most of the rockets struck open areas.

There are no reports of injuries.
