16 years of marriage ends in heartbreak
Hanan Ben Ari opens up about divorce: "I failed; I dreamt it would last forever"
In the first episode of the special show "Ra'ayon Meyuched" on Keshet 12, singer and songwriter Hanan Ben Ari revealed his emotions following his divorce after 16 years of marriage.

Speaking candidly about his experience, Ben Ari admitted to his fear and embarrassment about the breakdown of his marriage, despite his acceptance of the situation.
When asked about the thing he is most ashamed of, Ben Ari responded, “The divorce. As much as I’m at peace with it, I still felt a great fear and shame that I failed. I started something, brought seven children into the world, and I dreamed that it would last forever. I imagined it until I was 70 or 80, surrounded by grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Shabbat and holidays. I was embarrassed—it’s not a title that’s easy to wear on your forehead.”
Ben Ari also opened up about his financial commitment to his children. When asked how much alimony he pays for his seven children, he responded, “A lot of money. For me, I just continue to provide for my children as much as they need. I don’t pay just what’s legally required; I pay what my children need and even a bit more.”
Addressing the reasons behind the divorce, Ben Ari explained, “We were married for 16 years. The real answer is that I’m very embarrassed to talk about it because there are other people involved who are not here. Sometimes, we want to present a censored version of ourselves because we’re afraid that if we don’t, people won’t like us. The greatest advice I give, and what I tell my children, is not to be afraid to be yourself.”
Ben Ari’s candid remarks reflect his vulnerability and his journey towards personal growth, shedding light on the emotional challenges he has faced while learning to navigate life after his marriage. His openness offers a rare glimpse into the complex reality behind public figures’ personal lives and the struggles they often hide from the spotlight.
