Disgusting: Former Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger accused of indecent acts with minor
Former Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger, 71, from Tel Aviv, is under investigation by Israeli authorities on suspicion of committing an indecent act with a minor under the age of 16. This investigation was triggered by a complaint filed against Metzger, prompting an immediate inquiry by the police. Following his questioning, Metzger was released on bail.

Metzger, who previously served as Israel's Chief Rabbi, has a controversial history. In 2019, he was released from prison after serving a sentence for bribery, fraud, and tax evasion. Originally sentenced to four and a half years in prison, his sentence was reduced by one year after the Supreme Court accepted his appeal. He was granted early release as part of a rehabilitation program, a decision that was not opposed by the prosecution.
The current investigation, handled by the Tel Aviv District Fraud Unit, focuses on allegations that Metzger committed an indecent act with a minor, a serious offense that has raised significant public concern. The police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that Metzger's release on bail follows his questioning earlier today. The Tel Aviv Police have not disclosed further details of the complaint at this time.
This new development has once again placed Metzger under the public spotlight, following his earlier legal troubles. His previous conviction for financial crimes had already tarnished his reputation, and this latest investigation into accusations of sexual assault adds further complexity to his already controversial legacy. As the investigation progresses, the focus will now be on whether these latest allegations hold merit, and what further legal actions, if any, will follow.
Israeli authorities are continuing to examine the case, with police making it clear that the investigation is ongoing, and they are committed to fully addressing the allegations as they unfold.
