A resident of northern Israel was arrested last night (Sunday) by Jerusalem District police on suspicion of planting explosives in a building that earlier caused damage to vehicles. This morning, he was brought before the court.
Yesterday early morning, phone reports were received at the Jerusalem police station from an informant who claimed to have planted bombs in the 'Clal' building in the center of Jerusalem. Among those summoned to the scene were officers from the Lev HaBira station.
The suspect in planting bombs in the building also damaged police motorcycles.
The police identified the person behind the unusual report after he reported it again. During the interrogation of the suspect, a resident of Tiberias in his 40s, it became clear that it was a false report, and he was removed from the location.
A few hours later, a traffic unit officer from the Jerusalem District, located in the 'Clal' building, noticed that damage had been caused to police vehicles (motorcycles) parked in the underground parking lot and to a civilian motorcycle that was also parked there.
Following this, an investigation was initiated to trace the suspect in the act, during which forensic evidence was collected and surveillance footage from the parking lot was reviewed, immediately revealing that it was the same suspect who had harassed the police with false reports that night. The suspect was located and arrested last night for questioning, after which he was imprisoned.
During the day, the suspect was brought before the Magistrate's Court in Jerusalem for a hearing on the extension of his detention or an alternative to it. The court granted the police's request and extended his detention by 4 days, until January 2, 2025.
