A massive arms smuggling operation from Jordan to Israel was thwarted. During the day, two residents of Rahat arrived by car at the Rabin border crossing in the Arava. The vehicle that arrived from Jordan aroused the inspectors' suspicion and was directed for inspection.
During the inspection, 101 "Glock" pistols and magazines were discovered hidden in the vehicle's fuel compartment. The passengers in the vehicle were transferred for questioning at the Eilat police station.
The Tax Authority says that in the past year, several attempts to smuggle weapons into Israel through the Rabin border crossing in the Arava have been thwarted. The smuggling attempt thwarted today is the largest of them all.
The Customs Administration of the Tax Authority, responsible for preventing arms smuggling into Israel through border crossings, sees thwarting these smuggling attempts as a top priority, given their contribution to the fight against terrorism and violent crime.
