Mansour, identified as a Hamas operative, is set to face an indictment tomorrow (Tuesday) for the murder that occurred in Avni's apartment in the Binyamin region. While the charge will be for murder, the indictment is not expected to include a nationalistic motive.
According to Ynet, during the polygraph test, Mansour was found to be deceptive when he denied having planned the murder in advance. Mansour had claimed that the incident was an attempted burglary that unexpectedly escalated into a murder. Additionally, it was discovered that Mansour had been carrying a knife shortly before the crime. Forensic analysis revealed that Avni had been stabbed 66 times.
Avni was found unconscious with stab wounds in his home, which was also on fire. Emergency responders declared him dead at the scene.
Initial investigations led to the suspicion of murder, prompting the formation of a joint investigative team comprising the Jerusalem District Police's central unit and the ISA (Shin Bet). Evidence collected from the crime scene quickly identified Mansour as the suspect.
Mansour was arrested on July 10 by the Israel Police's Gideon Unit, in collaboration with an ISA operational unit and IDF forces. Following his arrest, he was transferred for a joint investigation by the ISA and the Jerusalem central unit.
