Crime, Murder attempt
Man tries to murder his wife with an axe in front of his daughters who begged for her life
The Central District Court today sentenced Ayano Takela, a resident of Petah Tikva, to 14 years in prison and compensation of NIS 80,000, who was convicted of the attempted murder of his wife with an axe, in front of their daughters.

The accused and his wife were married for about 35 years, and lived in Petach Tikva with three of their daughters. According to the indictment, filed by Attorney Tali Kerat from the Central District Attorney's Office, the case occurred in May 2022, against the background of repeated arguments between the couple, centred on the defendant's suspicion that his wife was cheating on him and repeated threats from him that he would kill her, despite her denials.
A day after a fight on the said subject, the defendant followed his wife into the bathroom, with an axe in his hand. The accused pushed his wife on the floor, beat her while the axe was still in his hand on the back of her head, as well as by kicking and choking her. The mother shouted to her daughters who quickly arrived in the bathroom where they noticed the mother lying and bleeding on the floor. The girls begged the father to stop his actions and at the same time tried to push the accused away from the mother. They managed to take the axe from his hand and even push him out of the bathroom and lock the door after him.
After conducting an evidentiary trial, Takala was convicted of attempted murder, aggravated assault under aggravated circumstances when the offender carries a cold weapon and wounding. The attorney's office believed that it was correct to set a punishment complex between 14-18 years in prison, while this morning, the court sentenced him to 14 years in prison in practice, along with a suspended prison sentence and compensation of NIS 80,000 to the victim.
