This morning (Tuesday), a man in his twenties from Arad was arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing his 57-year-old mother in their apartment. Police officers responding to the scene after being alerted of an incident and discovered the mother unresponsive, and medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene due to stab wounds, according to Mako reports.

The incident was reported to MDA's dispatch centre at 4:54 AM. Medics and paramedics arriving at the scene found the woman unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing, with visible critical stab wounds, leading to the determination of her death.

MDA paramedic Roni Kahana recounted, "Our colleagues from the police guided us to the woman who was lying unconscious, without a pulse or breath, with stab wounds. We conducted medical assessments, but her injuries were fatal, and regrettably, we had to declare her deceased."

The son of the victim, in his 20's reportedly turned himself in and admitted to police officers of committing the crime himself. He is currently being held in custody and requested by police to undergo psychological tests. According to Ynet, a neighbour stated that the son “is completely mad” and “screams terribly.”

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

According to data from the Israel Women's Network, the latest murder raises the total number of women, killed from domestic violence in Israel, to 15 since the start of the year.

Women's rights advocates have expressed worries recently that alterations in critical areas of government policy will affect the safety of women. Specifically, they criticized National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir's choice in February to stop funding the security aid given for women in danger of domestic violence, a program run by the Michal Sela Forum.

Moreover, they cautioned that the easing of firearm regulations could worsen the violence experienced by women, especially those in unsafe or violent living environments.
