The court today (Tuesday) sentenced Amir Raz, the former police officer who shot his wife Diana Dedbaev to death in February 2021, to life imprisonment and another six years in prison. This, after last March Raz confessed to the act.

Raz will also compensate the deceased's family with 258,000 NIS.

During the arguments for punishment, Mariana, Diana's sister, turned to Raz in her testimony and told him: "You have brought upon us a life of severe loneliness and a hell filled with endless pain." Mariana told about her sister Diana that "the definition of 'super-mom' in the dictionary is her.

"She was given the power to heal and empower others, and Amir took it from the family and the world. That's why her murder is damage in so many circles, it broke the trust of all of us."

As a reminder, Amir Raz murdered his wife in their home, after tying his children with a rope and forcing them to watch the act. Raz strangled Diana, stabbed her, and then shot her in the leg and head, while telling his crying children: "There is no mother now."

According to the indictment, in July 2020, due to the weakening of the relationship between the couple, Raz left their shared home. However, after a few weeks the two decided to move back in together. On the day of the murder, an argument broke out between the couple. Diana left the house and then, apparently, Raz decided that he wanted to murder her.

The convicted husband took out a rope about eight meters long, sat his three older children on chairs in the living room and tied them up, while he sat the baby next to them in a high chair. Immediately after that, Raz took a kitchen knife with a pointed blade 20 centimeters long and placed it on the dining room table.

"Life imprisonment" in Israel is not prison for life, but a specified number of years that is nowhere near a lifetime. Unlike the US.
