Israel-Gaza War, Online Storm

An Innocent Photoshop Request Turned into an Online Storm

A fighter who asked a photoshop group to process a photo he took in Gaza caused a stir on social media when the edited photo caused a celebration among users.

The story behind the photo that stirred up the web. An IDF fighter asked one of the groups of graphic artists on social media if they could fix the clarity of the image. "Along the way," he asked "add a small table with coffee."

The fighter's request in the photoshop group

The created image went viral and raised a smile among users. "Ahlan Wasahalan ya Aza" ('Hello Gaza'), Yinon Magal wrote along with the photo on his Twitter account. Menni Asayag also added "I would happily sit down for coffee with this beloved fighter. But where is the waiter?"

However, not everyone enjoyed the network joke. After advocacy activist Yoseph Haddad attached the photo under the caption "We started speaking Arabic", left-wing activist Yariv Oppenheimer tweeted, "For months, Yoseph Haddad has been fooling you. He's not doing 'advocacy', he's giving you a back massage. Explaining to the Israelis why they are always right and that they are allowed to run wild. He has not convinced one person in the world to take our side. On the contrary. Whoever tweets such a picture causes explanatory damage to Israel. Serves the BDS. So much for the likes and hugs in Israel."

Haddad responded and tweeted in response: "Yariv Oppenheimer who a few months ago when I said in the studio that we should hit the terrorists in Gaza with all our might and speak Arabic to them, got angry at me and said that I probably want a war that will bring national trauma, don't teach me what advocacy is the same way I won't teach you what it is to be weak and submissive in the Middle East. And I'm proud to see photos that convey that the message got through and the IDF started speaking Arabic in Gaza, that's how national honor and morale are restored."
