During the Yom Kippur War, journalist Ron Ben Yishai served as a military correspondent for Israeli television. Fifty years later, he returns for the first time to the archive of photographs he sent from the war and compiles them into a film titled "To Overcome War and Tell."

The film, produced by the broadcasting corporation and Ynet, tells the story of the combat on the Suez Canal front and uses authentic materials filmed during the war, with much of it previously censored. The events and stories behind the scenes have never been published before and are revealed for the first time.

Ben Yishai spent many hours in the archive rooms to retrieve dozens of hours of recordings and rare films that were sent from the Sinai and the Golan Heights frontlines. Many of these materials, sent from the field in real-time, were censored at the time and this is the first time they will be presented to the public.

At the beginning of the war, Ben Ishai joined Unit 87 of the 14th Brigade, where he participated in a mission that exposed the seam between the different Egyptian army groups and practically enabled the success of the Sinai Crossing. Towards the end of the war, he joined a paratrooper reserve unit that operated near the Suez Canal. After the war, Ben Yishai received a Chief of Staff commendation for courage, resourcefulness, and dedication, for saving wounded soldiers under fire.

The full movie will be available on the various platforms of KAN 11 and Ynet, starting from tomorrow (Friday), September 22nd.
