Google announced last week that it was beginning its effort to phase out cookies on its Chrome browser. The first stage, already begun, involves testing the anti-cookie Tracking Protection feature on 1% of users.
According to the announcement, Chrome users that are part of the test who have difficulty using a website without cookies will automatically be given a prompt to temporarily allow them, appearing on the right side of the address bar at the top of the browser.
Google said that as the effort to phase out cookies continues, "we’ll provide businesses with tools to succeed online so that high quality content remains freely accessible — whether that’s news articles, videos, educational information, community sites or other forms of web content."
What those tools are and how they work was not specified.
