The National Cyber Directorate informs the public that there have been recent instances of imitation attempts of government websites for phishing purposes, aimed at stealing personal information of citizens. These imitating websites appear similar to official government sites, and the website addresses resemble the genuine ones but are not identical.

Phishing scams utilize social engineering and are carried out through the sending of deceptive email messages or via social networking platforms. At times, malicious actors will employ phishing in order to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information such as bank account details, credit information, and passwords.

The message sent to the victim's computer or phone may contain malicious files or links intended to infect the victim with harmful elements. In most phishing scams, malicious websites impersonate genuine sites of banks, credit companies, or online payment methods (such as PayPal).

In the message they published, the digital system advises to exercise caution and ensure that any message containing a link to a government website indeed leads to the correct website, only with the ending gov.il. In order to be certain that you are taking action on an official government website and not on a fraudulent one, please search in the search engine - www.gov.il or my.gov.il "Personal Government Area", log in to your personal account, and perform the desired action.

If you suspect that you have indeed fallen victim to a phishing scam, please turn to the Israel Police website.
