US President Joe Biden spoke today (Tuesday) at the opening of the United Nations Assembly in New York, when in his words he referred, among other things, to the normalization talks between Israel and Saudi Arabia, and said that he continues to work for peace in the Middle East.
"At the G20 conference, we announced a train that will connect two continents, from India to Europe through the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Israel. This is part of our effort to build a more prosperous Middle East that is more connected to the rest of the world, and demonstrates the importance of expanding Israel's global normalization in the Middle East, both economically and politically," said Biden. "The integration of Israel in the region is important, even as we continue to work for lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians based on a two-state solution."
He later referred to the global security tensions and the war in Ukraine. "When we choose to stand together and express hope for a better future for humanity, we will be able to change the face of history," he said. "As President of the United States, I understand my obligation to lead the free world, especially in the difficult times we are facing, To bring them to a place where conflicts are resolved peacefully and not through war."
"Russia believes that the world will despair and allow it to corrupt Ukraine without any consequences," Biden claimed. "But I ask you: if we abandon the basic principles of the UN Council in order to please aggression, will there be a single country that will feel safe? If Ukraine is allowed to be destroyed, will the independence of any other country be guaranteed? The answer is no."
"We need to stand against aggression today, to stop other potential attackers tomorrow," the American president clarified. "This is why the United States, along with our allies around the world, will continue to stand by the brave citizens of Ukraine, who are fighting to protect their national and territorial independence - and their freedom."
He also referred to the damages of global warming, and called on the heads of state to act for protecting the environment. In his words, he mentioned the series of disasters that have occurred in the world in recent months: "Record-breaking heat waves in the US and China, huge fires in North America and Europe, a severe drought in Africa, and severe floods in Libya that killed thousands of people. Together, these images warn us of what could happen if we don't reduce our dependence on gas and start working to protect our world from climate damage."
In concluding his remarks, Biden addressed the nations of the United Nations and clarified that "the United States wants to create a safer, more prosperous, and more equal world, because we know that our future is tied with your future. And we know that there is no country that can deal with the challenges we face today on its own."
