The Minister of Justice and Deputy Prime Minister, Yariv Levin, refers to the High Court hearing that will take place this morning on the issue of reducing the probable cause, and strongly attacks the High Court.

In a statement that he published, Levin said: "The hearing that is taking place today in the Supreme Court, with a complete lack of authority, is a fatal injury to democracy and the status of the Knesset. Even the presidents and Supreme Court judges for generations all agreed - the people are the sovereign, and their will is expressed in the basic laws that the Knesset enacts. The very debates are the possibility of invalidating basic laws , who are the head of the legal pyramid in Israel, and with the possibility of taking the Prime Minister out to prison, they are a mortal injury to the rule of the people."

Levin added that "the court, whose judges elect themselves in private chambers and without protocol, places itself above the government, above the Knesset, above the people, and above the law. This situation is completely contrary to democracy, It means a court without checks and balances at all, A single ruler, No more rule of The people".

"The argument by which the court justifies the discussion of invalidating basic laws is that it must prevent basic laws that shake the foundations of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. But what really shakes the foundations of democracy in Israel is the debate that the court is holding today."

"Until today, despite extremely problematic judicial activism, there was at least one agreed-upon basis - the court respected the basic laws. This is the basis that preserved democracy in Israel. The responsibility to maintain this common basis lies at the door of the court."
