Rabbi Reuven Ben Uliel, the spiritual leader of the Karmei Tzur community and the father of Amiram, who was convicted of the murder of the Dawabsheh family in the village of Duma, appeals to elected officials with a heartfelt request to remove Amiram from the isolation he is currently in and transfer him to a regular religious department, like other prisoners.
It should be noted that, following intense pressure, Ben Uliel was temporarily released from isolation on the eve of Passover to participate in the holiday meal together with other prisoners. After the holiday, he was returned to isolation. Security prisoners, including mass murderers, do not sit in isolation but in special wings with other terrorists.
Rabbi Ben Uliel has appealed both to the Prime Minister and the ministers, as well as to opposition members, and also to the head of the Shin Bet. "Amiram is enduring torments that cannot be disclosed in the depths of the Shin Bet's basements by the Jewish Division, and he has been sentenced to three life imprisonments. Amiram is undoubtedly innocent. He was never brought up to hurt any person in the world, and that was not his way. He has never been arrested for an attack on Arabs or anything of the sort."
Rabbi Ben Uliel briefly commented on Amiram's conviction, saying, "We are not discussing a verdict that is outrageous on every measure – moral, ethical, legal, academic. It is something unrecognizable, to judge a person based on a confession extracted from him under torments that no one in the world could endure for even a moment."
Eight years of isolation
Continuing, Rabbi Ben Uliel focused on the harsh conditions of Amiram's imprisonment, stating, "We are talking about the fact that the State of Israel continues to torture our son by placing him in complete isolation for eight years. Torture is forbidden by law, forbidden in interrogations, and forbidden in prison conditions. There is absolutely no reason for our son to endure torture, even if it's passive, for eight years."
In his words, Rabbi Ben Uliel addressed public officials and decision-makers, saying, "We appeal to you, Mr. Prime Minister, to you, the head of the Shin Bet, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Internal Security, and ministers from all parties. Please stop these torments on our son. He has been enduring a terrible isolation for eight years. Why are we waiting? Heaven forbid, he will lose his sanity and be hospitalized in a closed ward? And you will be able to say that you did not spill his blood?", cried the rabbi.
"Please, stop these tortures. It is in your hands. Many actions have been taken, but until you make this decision and give an order to release him and transfer him to the open religious wing, he will continue to suffer and endure torments that are only experienced in dark and godforsaken places," said Rabbi Ben Uliel.
Members of the opposition, human rights do not interest you?
At the end of his speech, Rabbi Ben Uliel also appealed to opposition members, asking them to act on behalf of Amiram. "Being a human rights and prisoners' rights advocate has always been a banner that has been raised. It's not related to right or left. Each member of the Knesset, from various political parties, should join this struggle, speak out, present queries to the head of the Shin Bet, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice, and the Minister of Internal Security – in order to end this torture on our son and put an end to it before the upcoming New Year," he said.
