The court in Manchester today (Monday) sentenced Lucy Letby, a nurse at a local hospital, to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. She was convicted of the murder of 7 infants and attempted murder of 6 additional infants in the years 2015-2016. The verdict was given in Letby's absence, as she refused to attend the trial in order to avoid being in court alongside the families of the infants she killed.

Lucy Letby, 33 years old, earned the moniker "the baby killer" due to the serious charges against her. According to the indictment, she murdered and assaulted infants shortly after their births at the hospital where she worked in Chester, located in northwest England. Testimonies heard in court revealed that Letby systematically used medical equipment and drugs to intentionally induce system failures in the infants, and she methodically worked to murder them.

Among other things, it is alleged that Letby poisoned some of the infants by injecting them with insulin, while in other cases, she injected air into their bodies or forcefully fed them with milk. In some instances, she assaulted the infants multiple times until they died. Two of the murdered infants were siblings, and two others were twins.

During the search of Letby's home following her arrest in 2017, the police found a note in which the nurse confessed to the murder cases. "I intentionally killed them, because I'm not good enough to take care of them," she wrote. "I am an evil and terrible person. I am wicked for having done this."
