The Legal Advisor to the Government is opposing the Tiberias law and is requesting to determine that it will not apply in the upcoming elections.

The Legal Advisor to the Government has now submitted her position regarding the Movement for the Purity of Judges' appeal on the Tiberias Law to the Supreme Court. In her stance, the legal advisor firmly asserts that the immediate implementation of the law would lead to the conclusion that it is unconstitutional and its legality nullified, thus determining that the law should not apply in the upcoming elections.

The legal advisor noted in her response that the law "suffers from significant flaws, and its application should not be imposed on the upcoming local elections; it is intended to allow a particular candidate to compete."

Furthermore, she also states that even if the law is implemented only from the next elections, there are still difficulties and additional limitations will need to be imposed on it to withstand legal scrutiny, according to her position.

The appeal regarding the law is expected to be discussed by an expanded panel of 9 justices on Sunday, July 30, 2023.
