Deep inside the bunker, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar tells himself stories about what is happening above ground in the Gaza Strip, or he is trying to explain his strategy which in the meantime has caused the complete destruction of Gaza City and its surroundings, and now the destruction is descending south to Khan Yunis and the center camps.
The Al Jazeera network today published a letter from Sinwar to the political office of Hamas located in Turkey and Qatar in which he detailed the battles that his men have been waging against Israel since the beginning of the ground maneuver:
"The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades are waging a fierce, violent, and unprecedented battle against the Israeli occupation forces, and the occupation army is suffering severe losses in human life and equipment," Sinwar writes from his tunnel to terrorists who are in luxury apartments abroad.
We killed at least 1,600 soldiers
To what extent Sinwar's description of reality is connected to reality can be learned from the lines in which he boasts about Hamas's military achievements: "During the ground war, the Al-Qassam battalions attacked at least 5,000 soldiers and officers, a third of them were killed, another third were seriously injured, and the last third was permanently disabled. As for military vehicles, 750 of them were destroyed, or partially disabled."
According to the IDF's data, since the beginning of the ground maneuver, approximately 150 soldiers have been killed and another 200 seriously injured. Since the beginning of the war, 486 soldiers have been killed and another 350 seriously injured. Sinwar, in his report to the Political Bureau, multiplied the numbers by 10 and talked about - 1,600 dead for the IDF.
For comparison, yesterday it was revealed that since the beginning of the war, the IDF has eliminated about 7,800 terrorists and the number may be higher because they are trapped in tunnels and under the ruins of houses.
Sinwar concludes his letter by saying that "the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades destroyed the occupation army, and they are on their way to crush it, and it will not submit to the conditions of the occupation."
