Ryan Routh, the man who tried to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump in September, sent a four-page letter to Politico detailing his criticism of Trump and why he tried to assassinate him. In a strange move, the newspaper decided to give the assassin a platform and publish the letter.
In the letter, it appears that the smear campaign against Trump in the messages of some Democratic Party supporters in the media ("Trump is a dictator, Trump is Hitler"), influenced Routh, who said that he committed the act for "freedom and democracy."
A large part of the letter was devoted to Trump's policy in the Middle East, expressing support for Israel's greatest enemy – Iran. Among other things, Routh criticizes the foreign policy of the president-elect in his previous term, especially Trump's withdrawal from the nuclear agreement with Iran.
The assassin accuses the president of destabilizing the Middle East, while siding with the messages of the ayatollahs' regime, and blames Trump for all the "loss of life and destruction" in the Middle East.
