Iran Shakes: "Ready to Compromise on Nuclear Program"

Iranian President Masoud Pashakian made another unusual statement at the UN General Assembly, saying that Iran is willing to discuss its nuclear program with Western countries.

Speaking at the assembly last night (Wednesday), Pashakian expressed his country's readiness to engage in talks with global leaders to bridge differences regarding the nuclear program. He further added that the sanctions on Iran are "inhumane and harm innocent citizens," according to Reuters.

Surprisingly, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, emphasized that he sees "greater willingness" from Iranian officials to cooperate with the IAEA, noting that he plans to visit Iran in October.

Pashakian used the platform to criticize Israel, calling the fighting in the Gaza Strip "genocide," which he said must stop immediately.

These remarks follow Pashakian's unexpected statements made yesterday to his American counterparts, in which he indicated that Iran would be willing to lay down its arms if Israel did the same. According to the Iran International website, he stated, "We are ready to lay down all our weapons, provided that Israel lays down its weapons and an international organization comes to ensure security in the region." He added, "There is no real need for them, and we know how to secure ourselves."

In response to a question about Iranian arms supplies to Russia, the president remarked, "Why should we kill each other instead of talking?" Referring implicitly to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Pashakian stated, "A terrorist is a terrorist. Whether they are Arab, Persian, or Jewish. Whether it’s Israel, America, or Iran. If they are an assassin, then they are a terrorist."

Pashakian addressed the media representatives present at the meeting: "This is our whole point. You can report it however you want. Let’s ensure that we do not fight. What we can resolve through dialogue, let’s not resolve with missiles and guns."
