The Anti-Defamation League released a report today (Monday), showing a total of 2,087 incidents of "assault, vandalism, harassment, protests/actions and divestment resolutions" on American college campuses between June 2023 and May 2024, a 447% increase compared to the previous year.
Thus, the current year witnessed 28 assaults (zero recorded in the previous year), 1,418 protests, rallies, and encampments (326), and 201 cases of vandalism (9), 360 incidents of harassment (24).
The ADL said that there were a number of common themes regarding these incidents including open support for violence and terrorism and sympathy for Hamas, open denial of atrocities committed on October 7, removal of fliers commemorating or raising awareness of those still held hostage, and open antisemitic conspiracy theories about alleged Jewish control of institutions.
The groups most prominently associated with these actions are Students for Justice in Palestine, Jewish Voice for Peace, Students for Democratic Society, Young Democratic Socialists of America, and Dissenters. Funding is provided off-campus by many sources including the Muslim lobbying group CAIR.
