Report: Egypt Declines to Join Regional Defence Coalition Against Potential Iranian Attack

As tensions rise in the Middle East and preparations mount for a possible Iranian offensive, the pro-Qatari newspaper *Al-Araby Al-Jadeed* reports that Egypt has announced it will not participate in any military coalition aimed at countering Iran.

Israel Hayom reports have stated that instead, Egypt is concentrating on de-escalation efforts. Cairo has assured Tehran that it will close its airspace to any military actions that could jeopardize regional stability.

In light of Ismail Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran and the ensuing uncertainty over Iran's response, Egypt has made it clear that it will not engage in escalating the conflict. The newspaper reported today (Monday) that Egypt informed a recent Israeli delegation that it would not be involved in any military alliance against a potential Israeli attack.

The report states that Egypt will maintain its focus on reducing regional tensions and has informed Tehran of its commitment to prevent any military actions that could threaten the region. Cairo has emphasized that this position is not an expression of hostility towards Iran but a strategic move to safeguard its own interests.

Yesterday, *The Wall Street Journal* reported that Iran had rebuffed efforts by American and Arab officials to temper its reaction to Haniyeh’s assassination. Meanwhile, Tehran continues to investigate the security breach that enabled the assassination to occur within a key Revolutionary Guards stronghold.

Iranian prosecutors announced on Saturday that they have launched a formal investigation into Haniyeh’s killing, which occurred hours after Hezbollah Chief of Staff Fuad Shukr was killed in Beirut. These incidents follow the massacre of 12 children at a soccer field in Majdal Shams.
